Origin: IE [Indo-European] [184] *di̯eu- `heaven'
Etymology: Hypostasis of *ἐν διϜί (: ἔν-διϜι-ος, cf. ἐν-νύχι-ος), loc. of the word for `heaven (by day), day' (s. δῖος, Ζεύς). - Whether the expression ἔνδιον ὕδωρ (Arat.) etc. contains a trace of `heaven', is doubtful; rather blending with δῖος.
